Tasty traffic is something that may have always eluded you. Don't worry, I spent around 8 years creating websites for myself when I first started out. :p
This post will be something that I will build out based on ideas and what I experiment with. I present to you, the beginning stages of this potential traffic sources post.
Don't discount offline networking opportunities. Go to groups, meetings, and conferences. Talk about what you wrote if it's relevant to your discussion.
Find people who operate in your space and comment and network there without being insufferable.
Create a roundup post that involves multiple people or websites. For example, I really like this post 17 traffic building tips from some of the world's most popular bloggers as a good example.
Upload a presentation on SlideShare that has you website link in it and link to it from your LinkedIn account and other places.
And if you're not on LinkedIn, GET ON LINKEDIN.
Buzzsumo.com is a tool that helps you find popular content on your topic. What's even better is you can see the content creators that have shared specific content on social media. Do some outreach to see if they would be willing to share your stuff as well.
Do a guest post on a blog in your space. Again, don't be a pest.
Create a Google alert for a relevant URL or keywords. This will keep your potential outreach list full. This also works for content to write about.
Make an ultimate guide. People love a massive, well put together guide that's fun to read. Even if it is laced with self promotional material.
Get on a course publishing website and include a bonus lecture with a link back to your website. Also make sure your public profile page has a link to your website as well.
Do resources or reviews with a call to action. Setup a challenge and do a task together.
Embed rich media into your content. That is audio, video, and pictures. Infographics do really well.
If you're using a premium theme on your website, submit your finished website to that theme's showcase. Be sure you have more than just the defaults. They want to see cool stuff to show off.
No Matter what you do, keep your website's loading time under 2 seconds.
I'll be adding more stuff in the future, but for now, what did I miss? What are your favorite ways to build traffic that should be in this potential traffic sources post?
Do you focus on backlinks? If so, where? Or do you focus on optimizing your SEO and attracting new visitors that way?
Let me know in the comments below. Thanks!
